On Time

For once.  I’m actually posting my WIP Wednesday on a Wednesday!  And what a great Wednesday it has been!  A dear friend invited me to her daughter’s school for their Christmas concert.  A little series of songs and a little story behind why they all went together.  It was so cute. It really, really reminds me of the true meaning of Christmas. And It’s days like these that make me adore the holiday season.  So that put a smile on my face for the whole day, maybe even the week!

To make things better, we went to check our mail on our way home.  And with all the packages from home coming the last thing I was thinking about was getting was a box from Knit Picks.  But it came anyway!!  Remember my post Cyber Monday?  All the yarn that I ordered came and I’m hoping to start the Amused sweater this weekend.

As excited as I am to start the sweater, I also just started something last night.  Something that I’ve been waiting to start since I got the yarn in a Secret Pal Swap.  Most importantly, the yarn in mmmmmmMalibrigo.  And I need a hat for the Winter.

Believe it or not the Star Crossed Slouchy Beret is the only WIP I have right now, besides the hub’s socks I’ve been trying to forget about.  I actually have 2 finished projects to share on Friday though!  Until then, head over to Tami’s Amis and Other Crochet for more WIPW posts!

1st Work In Progress Wednesday

WIP Wednesday, an idea created by Tami’s Amis and Other Crochet .  You can check out the links to everyone participating at her blog.  I discovered this great idea through The Blog Hub group on Ravelry.  I feel like I can finally share what I am working on, since it’s not all baby stuff anymore.  I still have a baby something on the needles though, that has to be finished.  I am very excited about both of my projects this week!

The first I started a few weeks ago, but hadn’t really worked on.  And only one word is needed to describe my excitement: Wollmeise!  Yummy yarn!  And my first time casting some on.  The pattern is Simple Skyp Socks.  I started with a different pattern, but I think it was too simple for my taste.  So I ripped and started these.  I believe the colorway is My Old Blue Jeans but I’m not quite sure since the yarn came from the big “not so perfect” sale, and therefore the colors were not marked.

Next, I have finally cast-on my Citron!   And boy is it addicting.  I mentioned in an earlier post about the SP 15:Refresh swap I participated in that I received some amazing Malabrigo Lace in Col. China colorway.  I love it, and was thinking about making the citron since I saw it!  Then, when reading the pattern, I saw that it actually calls for Malabrigo.  This will be the first time I make something in the actual yarn it calls for. I can’t wait till I’m done with this, and I think it may have even turned me onto lace knitting!

Secret Pal!

OK, so if you’re an avid follower before I moved to WordPress you would know that I am a participant and administration for the SP15 Refresh Group.  The original SP15 never spanned out, but many participants wanted to continue so we organized a Refresh so we could continue on.  So after helping to develop the website, posting my own questionnaire on my blog, and ending up postponing the swap for a month or so I completely forgot to blog about the swap! I have received 3 skeins of yarn, all from Jimmy Beans Wool and all pretty amazing in the past few weeks.

I first received the Malabrigo Worsted Yarn in colorway Amoroso.  And boy is it just perfect!!!  It had such deep colors of red and pink and the first thing I thought of when I saw the yarn was that it would make such a comfy and warm winter hat!!  And since it is so long since I’ve worn it, I then realized that my winter coat is red on the outside and the same pink on the inside!  So it is just PERFECT!!!!  I also dyed some yarn (seen in a previous post that I plan to make matching gloves out of.  Some of the patterns  that I’m contemplating using for this luscious yarn are wurm or the star crossed slouchy beret which I think I’m leaning towards.

I received another Malabrigo yarn.  This time it was a Malabrigo lace which just feels amazing.  I swear I could sit here all day and just rub it against my cheeks!  I haven’t decided what I’m going to make with it this time, since I am not really a lace knitter.  But I LOVE the colors so I have to do something for myself.  There’s several citrons made out of it in the projects on Ravelry.  And I have that in my queue so I may make that.  We’ll have to wait and see.

Last but certainly not least is the Knit One Crochet Too Ty-Dy Socks in colorway cherry cola.  I’m definitely using these to make socks.  I have to decide what pattern would work though.  I sure have a lot of socks on my to-knit list since they are my favorites! Looking at the way they stripe I might choose Sherbert Toe Socks or A Pair of Hearts Socks which would work well with the colors too.  I’m a trial and error person when it comes to socks though; if I am half-way done but don’t like the way the colors match with the pattern, I will frog!!

I actually also got little buttons with cats on them.  They are pretty darn cute too, I just forgot to take a picture. So my secret pal sure did a great job. Can you see the continuing theme?  Because I can!!!  It’s the color PINK which doesn’t surprise me because I love pink!  She read me like a book (or read my blog like, well, a blog).  I’m not sure if I have a third package coming or not, but I’m sure I’ll love it if I do, but frankly I don’t expect one.  This was more than enough considering it was supposed to be a $30 limit!  🙂
