More Joys of Germany

There are so many reasons I love living here.  Personally I haven’t been too much more of Germany, but I think Bavaria is just perfect!  My two favorite things about this gorgeous place I live in?

#1.  The views and scenery.  They are just breathtaking.

#2.  The food.  Not only the traditional cooking you will get, but the food that’s also available in the stores.   You can’t buy those products in the states!

So a bit of week in review that led me to these conclusions.  Last week a few friends of mine decided to get together and walk to this castle that is town.  Not my town, but the town one of them lives in: Kallmunz.  And the Naab River runs right through her town.  Let’s just say she lucked out because her apartment is just in the most scenic area I have seen in a long time!  Talking about it really doesn’t do it justice, so just look at the pictures!

This brings me to my next love of Germany.  The food.  There are so many types of food, and candy that taste so good, and different!  One of my favorites is Nutella.  Yes, I know, I know.  You can get it in the states.  But it’s much cheaper here!!  And I had a recipe I was given by a friend a few months back and never tried.  We were hanging out with some friends Friday night and I knew it was the perfect time to try out the recipe.  I guess you could say that these people were my guinea pigs.  Believe it or not, I have never made homemade brownies!  I don’t think I was aware there was a such thing since making a box is SO EASY!  But lo and behold, making homemade Nutella brownies is almost just as easy!  Of course there are a few steps here and there that are a little more involved than cracking an egg and stirring but I’ve tackled much more intense baking recipes than this.  And they were so good!!  My husband said, and I quote “They are so good, I don’t need to put ice-cream on top”.  I think all brownies are that good, but he was impressed.  So, here’s the recipe!

NUTELLA BROWNIES

1 cup Butter
2 cups Sugar
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
4 large Eggs
1 cup All-Purpose Flour
3/4 cup Cocoa
1/8 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 cup Nutella
1/4 cup Chocolate Chips

Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. (I don’t have a sifter.  Stirring well worked fine) Set aside. On a low heat, melt the butter and add in the sugar and vanilla while stirring to combine. Remove from heat and cool completely, you don’t want it warm enough for the eggs to cook in the mixture. Once cool, add the eggs one at a time and mix well to combine after each addition.

Add the egg mixture very slowly to the flour mixture until completely mixed in.

Heat the Nutella in the microwave for a little bit until you get it to a runny consistency. Add the Nutella to the batter and mix well. Now add the chocolate chips and mix to combine.  Pour into a square baking pan and bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting.  (I don’t have the patience to cool completely, so do what I do!  *Helpful Hint*  Use a plastic knife!  Works perfectly!)
