Yarn Along & WIP

I’ve been participating in Tami Ami’s Work In Progress Wednesday posts for a while now.  I can’t tell you exactly how long because truthfully I really just don’t want to look back right now.  I’m in a lazy mood (and I have a killer headache).  Point being, I plan to continue with WIP Wednesday, but I’ve also seen a few bloggers participating in what they call a Yarn Along, started by Small Things.  Small Things says

“Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up
in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So,
what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a single photo
and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with
the rest of us!”

Well I decided that there was no reason I couldn’t combine both of these ideas, or memes, into one post each Wednesday.  Especially since I’m such a slow reader so I definitely wouldn’t have something new to share in the Yarn Along every Wednesday.   You also might want to get used to seeing my Kindle there since I don’t do much reading out of books anymore.  The Kindle was my Christmas present this past year and I’ve been addicted every since.  As you can see, I’m reading Casting Off by Nicole R. Dickson.  I’ve gotten really into this book.  It’s quite enjoyable, and you really connect with the different types of characters all living on a little island in Ireland.  I also just downloaded The Yarn Harlot: The Secret Life of a Knitter by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee.  Unless you’re new to the knitting/blogging world, or you are just living under a rock, then you know of the Yarn Harlot and may have even read her blog.  Well I’ve enjoyed her writing and cleverness, so I decided to try out the book.  So far, I love it…but that’s really not saying much since I’ve only read the Intro and 1st chapter.

I’m usually a 1 book girl.  Monogomous reading.  I don’t keep stories straight well, unless they are different enough.  Those two books sure are different enough (even if they are both knitting themed!).  Not only do I have 2 books on my list right now, but I’m also listening to an audio book.  Heat Wave by Richard Castle.  There’s a show called Castle, which I adore.  It’s a mystery type cop show, but funny.  And not knitting related!  One of the characters, Richard Castle is a writer in the show.  Heat Wave was the fictional book that this fictional character wrote for a fictional tv show.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was a real book!  I’m enjoying listening to the book while I’ve been spending time in my little yarn room.

Onto knitting.  It’s about time, right?  I’ve started my Lettuce Pullover.  This is now officially taken on the title of My First Sweater.  Don’t ask about Amused…if was frogged, then put aside.  I still plan to knit it, but it just won’t be my first.  The Lettuce sweater, mine being knit in Knit Picks Gloss Lace Ultra-Marine, is a KAL with a friend over at A Tangled Yarn.  It still doesn’t look like much but I’m enjoying watching the increases start to take shape and turn into the sweater.

You may remember me posting about what to knit for a friend’s baby shower.  This friend is a fellow knitter so I didn’t want to do something half-assed, with cheap yarn, or something she wouldn’t appreciate.  I asked for suggestions & someone suggested I take a look at Susan B. Anderson’s free toy patterns.  I was glad for this suggestion, although that’s not what I decided on in the long run.  I found another one of Susan B. Anderson’s patterns for a pacifier clip.  The flower you see is the start of the pacifier clip.  I have just started the stem and the leafs.  My objective was for it to look like a sunflower, but now it seems to look just like a black-eyed susan.  I think it’s adorable no matter which flower it resembles though.  I’m using Knit Picks Shine Worsted for the pattern and I have discovered that I adore this yarn! I have a few other ideas in store to complete the gift.  When they are all finished you’ll be the first to know!
